In Oracle Cloud HCM, both delegate and reassign actions are used to manage tasks when a person cannot complete them, but they serve different purposes and have different effects.
1. Delegate:
- Purpose: Temporarily assign a task or responsibility to someone else.
- Functionality: Delegation allows a user to authorize another person to act on their behalf for a specific task or a set of tasks. The tasks are still owned by the original person, but the delegate can complete or manage the tasks during the delegation period.
- Scope: This action is typically used when someone is going to be unavailable (e.g., on vacation or leave) and needs someone else to handle their tasks temporarily.
- Control: The original owner retains the ability to revoke delegation and can also still see the progress of the delegated tasks.
- Example Use Case: A manager goes on leave and delegates approval of time-off requests to their assistant for a month.
2. Reassign:
- Purpose: Permanently transfer a task or responsibility to someone else.
- Functionality: Reassigning shifts the responsibility of a task from one person to another. Once reassigned, the original owner no longer has control over the task. The new assignee takes full ownership and is responsible for completing the task.
- Scope: Typically used when the original assignee is permanently unable to complete the task (e.g., due to role changes, departure from the company, or workload redistribution).
- Control: The original person loses visibility and control over the reassigned tasks.
- Example Use Case: An employee leaves the company, and their open tasks are reassigned to another team member.
Summary:
- Delegate: Temporary and retains task ownership.
- Reassign: Permanent and transfers task ownership.
